Read an answer without overclaiming

Separate named, recommended and cited in one synthetic answer.

An AI answer can name a company without recommending it. It can cite a page without naming that page's owner. Those observations answer different questions. Our first useful skill is to record each one separately.

Three observations

Named means the answer explicitly identifies the company or an accepted alias. Recommended means the answer presents it as a choice for the buyer's stated need. Cited means a visible source points to its domain. Record the wording and source link that support each decision. Do not infer a recommendation from a passing mention, or infer a brand mention from a citation.

Your first 15 minutes

Minutes 0 to 3: read the synthetic answer below. Minutes 3 to 8: make three columns labelled Named, Recommended and Cited. Minutes 8 to 12: place each company in the supported columns and copy the exact supporting phrase. Minutes 12 to 15: compare with the worked explanation. Keep this evidence card as a portable learning sample.

Synthetic answer

A fictional buyer asks for scheduling software for a field-service team. The answer says: AuroraOps supports recurring visits. For teams with complex dispatch, we would shortlist BeaconRoute. It cites https://aurora.example/research and https://independent.example/comparison. Both domains and both companies are invented for this exercise.

Worked explanation

AuroraOps is named and its domain is cited. The answer describes a feature but does not explicitly recommend it. BeaconRoute is named and recommended; no BeaconRoute domain is cited. An independent citation is not a company-owned citation. A second reasonable coding decision should be recorded as disagreement and resolved with the published scoring rule, not hidden.

Your learning artifact

Write a 60-word evidence card: buyer question, observation, exact supporting text and one thing the answer does not establish. Use only this synthetic example.

No real prospecting, paid measurement or company deliverable is required.
